Winegard MS-2002 problem

Postby Kazy » Tue Feb 02, 2010 9:48 am

I have a Winegard MS-2002 which I have had on the roof for about 1 year. Usually I am able to receive 10 channels with the omni. Recently, while I was watching TV, the signal dropped out of all but one channel...the strongest signal. Is there anything that can go wrong with the antenna itself? The light is still on at the splitter and the power converter is slightly warm to the touch. What are the possible solutions to my problem?

There are a few things we can check. First one is even though the LED is still on we need to verify that the power supply is still sending out the proper voltage. You can see a video on how to do that here.

Watch the Troubleshooting a Winegard power Supply to make sure your power supply is working properly. Secondly when doing the voltage tests on the power supply make sure that the center conductor of the coax cable connector at the antenna is sticking out past the edge of the connector at least 3/16th of an inch. It is possible due to cold weather that the center conductor has migrated away from the contact point in the center of the antenna connector. If both the power supply and the connector issues are okay then the built in amplifier in the MS-2002 antenna has stopped working for some reason.

You can send an email to warranty@winegard.com and they will issue you an RMA number to use to send the antenna in for repair.

Thanks for the tips. So far, the power supply checks out OK. I'll have to wait until it warms up a bit before heading up to the roof to check the coax at the top end.
