Hd8200U Reception Problem

Postby tvenetis » Sat Jan 23, 2010 6:01 am

Hello I have a Hd8200u antenna which I put up on my 2 story house 5 foot above my chimney. No matter which way I turn it south or east I can only get Poughkeepsie local stations like 48 and 3 other channels in the 40's. my zip is 12540 thank you

Good morning tvenetis -

Your area seems to be an issue for receiving signals. I'm seeing around 20 channels in your area that you should be able to pick-up with the HD8200U so we need to figure out what is causing the issue.

First, try moving the antenna horizontally on your roof. The new digital signal works similar to cell phones in which you could have no signal in your living room, but move to the kitchen and work just fine. Next, try mounting the antenna as high as possible. For your location I would recommend a 50 foot mast.

Also, take a look at what is happening to the signal once it reaches your antenna. Do you have a long cable run? Are you splitting to multiple televisions? You may be taking a weak signal coming in at the antenna and degrading it even further through the cable runs.

The antenna is 30 feet in the air and we tried turning it a little different ways and rescanning and I get junk channels like 54 2 religis channels and koreane station and cartoon channel. The cable is 50 feet with no splitters. I bought a digital 7 inch digital tv from radio shack last week. Now we have the antenna facing east toward conneticut but still the same stations.

Good morning tvenetis -

I would continue doing what we recommended in the previous post. Your cable run does not sound like the issue as long as everything is securely connected.

If you have a moment I would also suggest calling in to speak to Hans at 800-788-4417.

I called Hans and he told me to write to warrantywinegard.com to send me a new cartridge board which I did and I will send the one I have back. I have the antenna mounted on my chimney and it is difficult to try on different locations of the roof. Thanks for your reply.

I changed the new circuit board they sent me and still the same so I am sending the antenna back and getting cable. Thanks for the help anyway.
