Need Help with HD 7698P

Postby mccoady » Tue Oct 13, 2009 8:13 pm

My nephew bought a HD 7698P to install on the roof (chimney mount) of an older house in a small town. After installing new RG6 coax he ran his tv scan and was only able to pickup 2 stations so he borrowed an extra CM 7777 preamp I had and then was able to get a total of 7 channels including sub channels but still not getting 12-1, 12-2, 24-1, and 36-1 we get in our area. These are the channels we get 8-1,8-2,8-3,10-1,12-1,12-2 (high VHF),3-1,24-1,33-1,36-1 (UHF). Below is what TV Fool came up with for his location:

The stations 8-1,12-1, and 33-1 are all located about 65 miles from his house and I believe are all on the same shared tower, now 8-1(high VHF) and 33-1(UHF) are both coming in very strong which seems strange to me why 12-1(high VHF) isn't being it's the same location. We've oriented the antenna several degrees in each direction but still can't get 12-1,24-1(UHF 52 mi) or 36-1(UHF 61mi) I mean absolutely no signal at all. Channels 24-1 and 36-1 are not in the same location as 12-1 but are in the same location as 3-1,10-1 and he does get them with a strong signal.

The stations he's not getting are working fine any idea what's the problem?

Thanks for responding actually the Anthony, Kansas area is pretty flat and it's a one story house. Yeah it's fairly steep but my nephew is a lot younger and nimble I (plus it's his house) so I don't worry too much about him since my feet don't leave the ground.(lol) He thinks the antenna is mounted somewhere between 20-30ft high.

Since he does receive some channels do you think the cartridge housing could be bad?

Even though he receives channels 8-1 and 33-1 which are located on or near the same tower as 12-1 (Hutchinson, Kansas) could the antenna be reaching it's range limit?

The other two channels he doesn't get 24-1 and 36-1 are located in or near Wichita, Kansas but he does get other channels from that location like 3-1 and 10-1.

Good morning McCoady -

I ran your situation by a few engineers yesterday and here are their recommendations.

Raise the antenna to at 40-50 feet high and add an AP-8275 preamplifier to their system to try and over come the low signal threshold.
