Lost Local Channels

Postby MFL » Fri Jun 12, 2009 3:11 pm

I am hoping someone can help me. I have a Clearstream 4 antenna with a Winegard HDP-269 pre-amp in my attic for local channels. Since I installed this system my locals have come in clean and strong, but last week a nasty thunderstorm rolled thru. The next day all my local channels were gone. Was my amp damaged or could it be the antenna? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good morning MFL -

It is most likely damage to a specific part of the antenna. We cannot unfortunately troubleshoot an antenna we do not manufacture. If you find that their is an issue with the pre-amp, which is not typical, please contact us.

Thanks, I am trying to reach antennas direct concerning the clearstream 4. If I have a red led light when my winegard pre-amp is plugged in does that automatically signal that the pre-amp is working correctly?

Good morning MFL -

I would not say it is 100%, but yes... it is most likely working or at least has power. Here is a quick video guide on troubleshooting power supplies and following that through to the pre-amp.

Thanks for the video. I spoke with Antennasdirect and they are sending out a new C4 today. This way I will know for sure whether it is the antenna or the amp. I will let you know.

Ok, here is where I am at. I have installed the new c4 antenna and still no local channels. I have watched the winegard preamp troubleshooting video link you sent and here are the results. I have 15volt coming from the transformer thru the injector to the preamp and back to the injector (red led is on). No shorts in cable. Here is my next question which was not covered in the video. The injector port which reads 'out to tv' - should this read 15v also? If so. mine does not. It is a dead 0. Thanks.

AFAIK the "out to tv" port should read 0. You really don't want to be sending 15v from the injector to the tv, do you? :) I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

You mention in your first post that you had a nasty lightning storm, and the next day all your local channels were gone. Any chance your digital converter box (if you have one) or your tv tuner got damaged?

Thanks for the msg, and to whether or not I want 15v going out to the tv I haven't a clue that's why I ask you guys :). No, the locals are out on two different dish tv boxes. But one television also has a direct connection to the tv antenna and it is also out. So I know the satellite boxes are not the issue. What are the odds a 3 way splitter could go out?

Good afternoon MFL -

Try going directly from the antenna to your TV set or converter box to see if you receive any signal at all. It is possible the HDP-269 amplifier took a hit but the power supply circuit is ok. You should not have any voltage on the output of the power injector marked TV.

Good evening Winegard,

I may have misunderstood, but I thought that the video link you sent me troubleshooted the whole pre-amp. I checked everything that the video detailed. Tomorrow I will receive a new 3-way splitter. Once that is installed I will do the direct connect as everything but the amp will be newly replaced. Talk to you soon - missing my locals :(
