HD8200U UHF reflector part question

Postby dalepray » Sat Sep 22, 2012 10:35 pm

Hi,
I assembled my new HD8200U antenna today, but had a question on a V shaped piece on the UHF reflector before I hoist it up my tower. I attached a photo with red arrows pointing to the piece in question and green circles on the end I have a question about. First of all, what is the part called and what does it do? It is solidly connected to the mid-reflector end, but the end by the boom kind of floats on one of the arms and the other one seems to be pressed against the lower part of the reflector with spring pressure. Which is correct? Floating or pressed against the boom end of the reflector arm? Or does it make any difference?

Do Wineguard techs monitor the questions on this board?
Shucks, I was hoping I would get an answer from a Wineguard tech before I hoisted the antenna to the top of my tower. Since I am doing the job in the morning I will take a chance and just bend the springy V piece that is currently floating, so it will press against the reflector frame like the other side. I am still curious in what purpose the springy v shaped piece is supposed to do and whether it should officially float or touch. Thanks.
Later,
Dale

Just a follow-up to post that the antenna works well. I am pulling in 100 percent signal strength and 22-27 SNR from Tampa FL channels , about 75 miles away.
