Antenna for both HDTV and FM?

Postby tooler41 » Wed Apr 18, 2012 7:23 pm

Can I use a single antenna to pull HDTV and FM?

My zip code is 44224 and want to mount the antenna in my attic to drive up to 4 TV's and 2 receivers. Each run is anywhere from 40-75 ft. It's about 75 feet from my attic to a central distribution point where rest of TV cables are run. Roof is asphalt and exterior is vinyl siding. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you-

Good morning tooler41,

Since you have TV signals in multiple directions, the best antenna for you would be the MS-1000 non amplified antenna. This antenna will receive both TV and FM signals. Use an AP-8700 preamplifier with the FM trap switched OUT so the amplifier will amplify the TV and FM signals. You can use a Winegard SP-1002 2way splitter to feed a SP1002 2 way splitter and a SP-1004 4 way splitter giving you your 6 lines.

Sounds good but I'm a little confused on how to hookup from amplifier. If I understand the diagram for the AP 8700, Would I install a short piece of coax to the 2 way splitter and the use one output to FM and then use the other output to drive the 4 way splitter to drive 4 TV's and other FM receiver? Thank you-

You will run a short piece of coax cable from the TV connection on the power injector to the first SP-1002 2 way splitter, and then from each output of the first SP-1002 you can run a coax cable to the SP-1004 4 way splitter and another SP-1002 splitter. There will be TV and FM signal on each line allowing you to connect the line to a TV set or FM tuner.
