Attic Antenna Grounding Scenarios

Postby rsiebenaler » Thu Apr 12, 2012 11:47 am

I will be installing an antenna within my attic and would like to confirm what, if any, grounding requirements / recommendations exist. Please provide insight into the grounding requirements / recommendations for both of these scenarios:

Scenario 1 - Attic install of antenna. Coax cabling from antenna to TV running through interior walls / ceilings of the house (in this scenario, everything stays interior to the house - antenna, cable, etc.)

Scenario 2 - Attic install of antenna. Coax cabling from antenna to TV via an "exterior run" (in this scenarios, the coax cable exits the attic, runs vertically on exterior of house, then re-enters living area to connect to TV)

Good morning rsiebenaler -

In either case the antenna is installed in the attic grounding of the antenna or the coax cable would not be required. Grounding of the antenna and coax cable is done when the antenna is mounted outside to prevent a lighting strike to the antenna from entering the house.
