AP-2870 Pre-Amplifier question

Postby PhilF » Wed Jan 04, 2012 5:16 pm

Hi,

I have a single uhf/vhf/fm antenna on my roof and meant to buy the AP-8700 preamp (single input). Instead I bought the ap-2870 preamp and i cant return it. Can i use a two way splitter to run the antenna into the amplifiers vhf and uhf inputs at the same time and use the preamp that way?

Thank you,

Phil

Good morning Phil,

You can use a 2 way splitter to split the antenna signal to provide you 2 inputs. The problem with using a splitter ahead of the preamplifier is that you reduce both the VHF and UHF signals by 30% before going into the preamplifier. The proper way to split your signal will be to use a UHF/VHF combiner/ separator such as the Pico Macom UVSJ combiner/separator.
