ANTENNA FOR 29672

Postby Oldman » Tue May 19, 2009 9:02 am

I would like an antenna I can put in my attic, therefor it can not be too large, but even if it is outside I would like it as narrow as possible.

the direction it points will be through the side of the building and not through the shingles so this should decrease the signal loss

Also, can I combine 2 antennas pointing in different directions with a coax signal combiner or if I use 2 antennas should I use 2 coax lines?

Presently I have a UHF antenna (looks like a 2.5' x 3.5' piece of wire mesh with bow ties) in the attic and am getting all the stations with good reception.

Thanks for your help

Good morning Oldman -

Using zip code 29672 indicates that you will receive most of your TV signals from Greenville SC approximately 33 miles away. All of the TV stations in Greenville will be broadcasting their digital signals on UHF except channel WNTV who will be broadcasting their digital signal on VHF channel 9 after June 12th. Since it sounds like the antenna you now have in your attic is a UHF only model so you may have difficulty receiving WNTV. I believe you will be better off with a Winegard modelHD7696P antenna mounted outside.

Trying to combine 2 separate antennas through the use of a coupler can be difficult depending on signal strengths and directions. You will loose 30% of your signal strength from each antenna through the coupler and there is also the possibility of having multiple signals on the same channel reaching the digital tuners and confusing them and they will not lock onto that channel. If you wish to use 2 antennas you would use a Winegard CC-7870 coupler to combine their signals. Other wise the most full proof way would be for you to run a separate cable from each antenna to each TV set and then use an infra red A/B switch at each TV set to select which antenna you wish to watch. Not knowing where and what type of channels your second antenna is receiving it impossible to recommend an antenna for that direction. Can you give us the direction and channels desired for the second antenna.

thanks for the information.

I think I will try two antennas, I can use my HDhomeRun tuner for each coax and then tell my computer PVR where to find the station on the tuner. HDhomeRun has 2 tuners, one for each coax.

I also wonder about WUNF in Asheville North Carolina. It is a PBS station also but has different programs.
