I just purchased an HD-1080 and I have a question(probably a dumb one!). Should the two sections of the antenna be connected electrically? I mean, should there be a hard wire connection that provides a signal path between the two?

Good morning pclink51 -

No the back half of the antenna is a passive reflector grid that reflects the signal from it to the front half of the antenna.
