AP-8700 power loss

Postby ralphm27 » Sat Apr 30, 2011 12:49 pm

AP-8700 is about 2-3 years old. The weak stations suddenly stopped coming in. For a stronger station, I get a signal strength(SS) of 15 and an SNR 6-13 with the amp powered up and SS of 68 and an SNR 15 with no power to preamp. No change with two different power supplies and power splitters. Readings from a Sony TV.

Has the preamp died? (It is 40 feet in the air so I am trying to guess before I climb my tower).

Unfortunately there is no way of testing the preamplifier from below. Since you have already tried two different power supplies that does not seem the be a problem. You could have a cable or connection problem. You will need to climb the tower to make sure you do not have a bad connection at the preamplifier input or downlead to the power supply.

Please visit http://www.winegard.com/videos/index.php and watch the Troubleshooting a Winegard Power Supply video which shows you the proper voltages you should have at different locations in your system.
