FM Stereo Install

Postby jobeck1 » Mon Oct 25, 2010 5:57 pm

I bought the HD-6010 to get better fm reception on my home stereo, but am confused about the hook-up. The antenna comes with a "cable" hook up but is odd because of the way the cable goes in. Do you just strip the end of the coaxial cable and stick it in then tape it in place? The back of my stereo is odd also. It looks like the fm antenna is an RCA plug. The directions for the stereo show that a bare wire is inserted into the plug hole. Well, when I used their cheap antenna, I hardly got any reception at all. Do I put the other stripped wire in that hole as well?

Thanks for any help you can give me.

There should have been a 75 to 300 ohm matching transformer (balun) packed with the HD-6010 to allow you to attach a 75 ohm coax cable to the antenna. The matching transformer has the two 300 ohm wires on one end. Each wire attaches to the antenna studs. At the other end of the matching transformer is a rubber boot that you remove and push your coax cable through before installing the “F” connector on your coax cable which then attaches the cable to the matching transformer.

If your coax cable already has a “F” connector attached you will have to cut the end of the rubber boot to allow the “F” connector to pass through the hole in the boot and then attach the cable to the matching transformer. After the cable is attached to the matching transformer slide the rubber boot back into place.

If possible please send a picture of the back of your FM receiver that shows your FM antenna connection to hrabo@winegard.com. It is possible that you may need to purchase an adaptor that accepts the “F” connector from your coax cable to what ever style of connection is on your FM receiver. Can you contact the manufacturer of the FM receiver and ask them how you are supposed to attach a coax 75 ohm coax cable that has a standard “F” connector on the end of the coax cable to the receiver.
