Antenna Recommendation

Postby richart » Fri Apr 09, 2010 1:53 pm

I live in zip code 30101 and want to pick up several stations from Atlanta plus 1 station from Rome which is in a different direction.
AntennaWeb says I need a blue VHF (channel 10) and a blue UHF (channels 19, 20, 25, 27) and violet UHF (channel 39) for the Atlanta stations at a compass heading ranging from 138 to 144 degrees. And for the Rome station a violet UHF (channel 51) at a compass heading of 9 degrees.
How about a recommendation for a Hi-VHF/UHF antenna for the Atlanta stations and a UHF antenna for the Rome station?
And pre-amps? And can I combine the signal from the 2 antennas onto one feedline and pre-amp?
There will be about a 60 ft. cable run from the antenna to the entry point into the house and will be feeding 5 TV sets. Will I also need a distribution amp?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Good morning richart -

The antenna you will need for Atlanta is the HD7698P along with an AP-8700 preamplifier. For Rome channel 51 you should be able to use the HD-4400 antenna. You will be better off to run separate downlead cables from each antenna to inside the house and combine the cables after the power injector of the AP-8700 preamplifier using a CC-7870 coupler. You may need to install a channel 51 trap ahead of the AP-8700 preamplifier to block any channel 51 signal that will come in on the side of the Atlanta antenna.

Because the channel 51 is only 18 miles away this signal will be amplified 18db (8 times) and when the 2 antenna signal mix at the CC-7870 coupler we could have multiple channel 51 signals and the digital tuner will not know which one to lock onto. We will not know if there is a problem until both antennas are hooked up.
