Winegard HD-1080 In ATTIC @ 92602 ???

Postby Mamejunkie » Thu Jul 23, 2009 1:48 pm

Looking into getting a antenna to be mounted in the ATTIC and will be split to 2-3 rooms.

Will the Winegard HD-1080 be good enought? If not, what would you recommend?

Thanks.

Good morning Mamejunkie -

The HD-1080 can be mounted in an attic. Please understand that mounting any antenna in the attic can cause a drastic loss of signal, from 50% loss due to a normal roof/sheeting to a 90% loss if it is trying to pull through metal duct work or a metal roof.

Your stations are close to 40 miles out and are rated Blue/Violet. If you were mounting an antenna outside we would recommend something like a HD7694P. Mounting a system in the attic you will need something even stronger such as the HD7697P or HD7698P.

Because you are splitting to multiple televisions I would also look into a pre-amp. Here are some recommendations on that as well.

Recommended Pre-Amplifiers
If you have an extended cable run from your antenna to your television set or are providing signal to multiple television sets your antenna may need a Pre-Amplifier.

VHF/UHF Antenna Pre-Amplifiers
1 Television, Over 75 Foot Cable Run: Winegard HDP269
4 Way Split, Over 75 Foot Cable Run: Winegard AP8700

UHF Antenna Pre-Amplifiers
1 Television, Over 75 Foot Cable Run: Winegard HDP269
4 Way Split, Over 75 Foot Cable Run: Winegard AP4700

Going to get something better than the HD-1080. Its in the attic but some channels are still bad.

Out of these, which will you recommend? Looking at local store for pickup (Frys).

These 4 are around the same $ range.
WINEGARD HD7697P
WINEGARD HD-8800
WINEGARD HD7694P
WINEGARD GS-2200 "SENSAR"

Would like to avoid spending $150+ for
WINEGARD HD-8200U
WINEGARD HD-7084P

Good morning Mamejunkie -

I will still stand by my initial recommendations.

Your stations are close to 40 miles out and are rated Blue/Violet. If you were mounting an antenna outside we would recommend something like a HD7694P. Mounting a system in the attic you will need something even stronger such as the HD7697P or HD7698P.

Also please read the pre-amp information we provided you before as well.
