Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978I prefer to use a high quality electrical tape such as Scotch Brand 33 or 88 to attach the cable to the mast, tower etc. This way you will not deform the cable which can be done if you over tighten the zip ties.
Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978Thanks Winegard.
Here's another question for you. If you are to stack and couple a UHF antenna to a VHF/UHF antenna, 1. do you couple it directly from the VHF/UHF balun to the top connectors of the UHF tetrapole using another balun and coax or 2. do you use a VHF/UHF combiner like a CS-7750 VHF/UHF SEPARATOR/COUPLER , running separate coax from each antenna? If I use method (1) above, it will eliminate the UHF from my combo antenna, which might be a good thing. If I use method (2) above, would this also eliminate the UHF from the combo or would it keep the signal and combine it with the separate UHF antenna? And if a preamp is used, is only the VHF amplified or are both amplified in either method? Thanks again, jd
Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978When combining a UHF/VHF antenna into the VHF coupling terminals on an HD series antenna you will loose the UHF signal from the UV combo antenna. The same will apply when using a UHF/VHF combiner such as the CS-7750. You will loose the UHF signal on the combo antenna when hook to the VHF connector on the CS-7750.
As for your preamplifier question it is going to depend on which model preamplifier you choose. The AP-3700 amplifies the VHF signals and passes UHF signals. The AP-4700 and AP-4800 amplify the UHF signals and pass VHF signals. The AP-8700, AP-8275, AP-8800 and the AP-8780 will amplify both U/V at the same time. The AP-2870 has a separate VHF input and a separate UHF input and amplifies both the UHF and VHF signals.
Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978Thanks, Winegard.
OK, I want to stack a UHF only over my old VHF/UHF ant. 1. So if I couple the combo to the UHF ant do I use baluns and coax or 300 ohm twinlead? 2. Which antenna gets connected to the down lead (to amp/tv)? I would think it would be the Combo, right? 3. If this is the case, I would think, this is the most efficient way to connect them. Yes/No? 4 . And if they are coupled directly, would it allow for amplification of both by a single input VHF/UHF amp? I've been asking these questions as there were no diagrams of how to do this in the instructions that came with the Winegard HD9022 I picked up as an experiment. Diagrams would be nice. BTW, the HD9022 at 5' AGL pointing though the trees, with no amp and 60' of old cable I picked up NYC CBS, and NBC, better than my current set up (with an amp) and also picked up WOR, and FOX with 3 bars which I have been unable to get . IF I ever get this on the roof it may solve my reception issues. jd

Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978If you wish to combine the U/V combo antenna into the VHF coupling connection on a HD-9022 antenna you will need to use coax cable and a matching transformer (300/75 ohm balun) at the VHF input on the HD-9022 antenna. You will loose the UHF signal from the U/V combo antenna doing this and the resultant UHF/VHF signal is combined to a single downlead point coming out of the UHF downlead point on the HD-9022 antenna.
Your combined signal can now go into a single input preamplifier and both signals will be amplified. Also make sure you keep 4 feet of separation between the 2 antennas vertically so they will not interact with each other.
Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978I finally got the time and some good weather to put the antenna's up. I decided to get a YA-1713 to replace my old VHF as I was afraid I'd break the old one dismantling it. So I mounted the HD-9022 4' above the YA-1713 which was wired directly to the HD-9022. The lead from the HD-9022 went into my RadioShack pre-amp (which is an AntennaCraft 10G212). I replaced all outside RG-6 with quad-shield.
I went from 31 channels to 51 when I re-scanned and most are pretty stable, though not at full strength. We now get all of the NYC major network stations, and several off axis Philly stations. Its interesting to note, the YA-1713 is supposed to be a VHF 7-13 antenna but it picks up Philly VHF Ch 6 real good, even off axis (NYC is at 90 deg and Philly is 230 deg magnetic). I still have some minor work to do with the ground wire and eventually running another wire to the bedroom, but it looks like this will be OK. Thanks for all the help. jd You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978Excellent JD! How does it feel to be getting 51 channels without a monthly fee?
Re: I need an Antenna Recomendation for 07978Never paid a monthly fee for TV in my 60+ years and wasn't gonna start now!
