Outdoor Antenna Recommendation for 77396

Postby bgbates » Mon Jul 23, 2012 8:12 pm

I am wanting to get an outdoor antenna for a new house in 77396 zip code.

On my previous home in the same neighborhood I had a GS-2200 which worked pretty good. I used the antenna selector and it suggested a FV-HD30 FreeVision Antenna. I was wondering which antenna would be most recommended for this area.

I am installing new satellite service planning to combine the signals from the roof and split them out at our wiring panel. I am assuming I would add the amplifier either in the attic or at the wiring panel. I will then split the DTV signal to 3 TV's in the house. If I use the GS antenna I am also wondering if I really need the amplifier that comes with the GS-2200 or if I could get away with the GS-1100 alone? Would I also need an amplifier I use the FV-HD30 FreeVision Antenna?

Finally I am curious about the best mounting options. On my last house I used a DS-1000 that is separated from the Dish antenna. I see there is a DS-1111 option to mount the antenna along with a Dish antenna. Is it better to keep these separated or does it matter much? I think you get a little extra height with the DS-1111 but it could subject the antenna to more wind vibrations.

Installer comes in a couple weeks so help would be appreciated so I can get all the right equipment in advance. :)

I would suggest keeping the GS 2200 Sensar for your situation. I would also add in the GS Wingman Upgrade to get 3 dB more of UHF gain for a nice improvement to your UHF reception (most of your channels), especially on rainy days.

You will be more satisfied with the Sensar than with the FreeVision. You are too far from the antenna farm to get solid sevice with the FreeVision.

Since you are splitting between 3 TVs, the amplification will be appreciated.
