Can I use two GS-2200 antennas

Postby jkle379184 » Sun Mar 11, 2012 11:58 am

Both my daughter and myself have the same problem. The stations are all well within 30 miles(one is at 30 miles). But one of the stations is at 83 to 92 degrees from the rest. I can set one GS-2200 with the wing man so it picks up the one station, but then one of the other stations drops out, the one at 30 miles83/92 degrees apart I have four of the GS-2200 on hand. Can I just add the wing man, stack them and point them 83/92 degrees apart? I have heard that the top one needs to be 3' to 4' above the lower one. Will one of the power packs power both antennas? What type of joiner do you recommend?
Thank You

Good morning jkle379184 -

The problem with trying to point two GS-2200 antennas in separate directions and combine their signal is that in most cases this will not work because you will have multiple signals on each antenna. The antenna pointed in direction one will have good signals from that direction and a bad signal from direction two the 83/92 degrees. Now the second antenna pointed toward direction will have a signal from that direction with bad signals coming from direction one. When all of these signals mix and go to the TV tuner the good signals has to be at least 2 to 3 times stronger than the bad signal of the same channel or the TV tuner will not know which one of the signals to lock onto. So your channel is constantly breaking up or you will get a no signal found message because tuner does not know what to do. Your best option would be to use the MS-2000/2002 omni directional antenna.

If you wish to try two GS-2200 antennas since you already have them is to space them 3 feet apart vertically. You should be able to power them using one power supply. To couple the antennas together use a power passive 2 way splitter such as the Winegard SP-1002 in a weather proof housing to combine the two antenna to a single downlead.

Thank you for the fast response. I ordered a MS-2002 on your recommendation. I will replace the GS2200 w/wingman on my daughter's house with it. They have the 82 degree differences between stations. I had tried a used Radio Shack amplified Omni-direction on my house, 92 degree spread, with mixed results(not sure if Winegard was the manufacturer for Radio Shack or not). If the MS2002 works on the daughters house then I will try one on mine. or I can take the four GS2200 and build one heck of a array
I was surprised using the snap on Wingman, it really worked good. I was able to pull in the odd station at 83 degrees by moving the GS2200 over about 10 degrees. Without the wingman it was the group of stations or the one odd one. With the wingman all got all. The only problem was by moving over the 10 degrees I lost one station that was at the fringe of 30 miles. That is why I was looking at try two of the GS2200 at 83 degrees apart.
