any thoughts about extremly long milleageok here is the thing, i live near the shore 100 or 120 miles from the near transmitter, ocationally when the time is right i receive from 20 to 25 channels using a couple of aluminum rods of about 30 cm each connected directly to the coax needless to say that the time is almost never right (spring is the better bet) i recently bought a winegard set of stuff ( hd 8800, ap 8275, bag of rf connectors, 100ft rg6) the only thing between me and the tower is water, the sight is as clear as clouds permit and i´m in the roof of a 50 ft building in top of an elevation not a mountain but not flat either the question: what are my chances?
Re: any thoughts about extremly long milleageGood morning angell,
Most TV stations are designed to transmit about 60-65 miles over flat terrain. Your reception is going to be very dependent on the reflections of the TV signals off of the clouds and skip off the water. Weather is going to have a major facture on your reception and as you know we can not control the weather. Not saying it can't be done, but it would be quite a reach for any antenna.
