Selection recommendation request

Postby aks » Sun Dec 04, 2011 12:38 pm

I am looking for a selection recommendation based on the following conditions:

- 27 degree station bearing variation
- 8.0 to 13.4 mile station distance
- RF channel range from 24 to 39
- indoor garage rafter mounting no higher than 10 feet
- suburban setting with a nearby house in the same direction as the station bearing variation
- no line of sight to stations
- existing flat breadboard style RCA 1845 GM antenna (amplified) being used in the same mounting location seems to be just marginally effective. I am assuming I would be looking for an antenna that is relatively more effective than the present one to result in always pulling in enough signal.
- mounting conditions are such that there is not a lot of room for a deep (top to bottom) and a long (front to back) antenna. For example the PR-8800 would be too tall and so would be the PR-4400 unless this latter antenna was mounted so that its longest direction is side to side. So, would a PR-4400 mounted that way work?
- TV to antenna distance is about 70 feet.

I would much appreciate your assistance. Thank you.

Good afternoon aks,

The HD-4400/PR-4400 antenna will not receive a usable signal when installed sideways. The smallest antenna that might work for your application would be either the HD-1080 or FVHD-30 and use either a HDA-100 distribution amplifier or the HDP-269 preamplifier with the antenna you choose. At 24-39 miles without a clear view in the direction you need and only being 10 feet high is going to make reception very difficult.

Thank you. I am not sure I explained the conditions clear enough. The station distances are between 8 to 13.4 miles, not 24 to 39 miles. My existing antenna functions but with some drop outs, so I am looking at this as a question of relative performance. Would the recommended antennas HD-1080 or FVHD-30 make enough difference to eliminate drop outs or is this way of thinking not applicable?

Good morning aks,

Either antenna will receive more signal than your existing antenna elements. Whether that will be enough to make a major difference will be unknown until you try one of the antennas and the HDP-269 preamplifier.
