HD-1080 or FV HD-30 ?

Postby Fulbio » Fri Sep 30, 2011 6:41 pm

Hi
I'm debating on which one would be better for my TV signal needs, HD-1080 or FV HD-30.
I'm on Zip code: 94087, on a single story home. There aren't tall structures in my area, except a few 2 story homes around (one next to mine).
Based on DTV.GOV, there are multiple channels with strong digital signal in my area, and those are the ones I want to focus on, but I am confused about which would be the right antenna to pickup all of them.
Based on some of the reviews I have read, it seems like your HD-1080 may not do a great job at picking up the HI-V signals, but, on the other hand, your FV HD-30 is only rated for channels 7-51, and there are a few channels listed on that web page over #51, that I want to make sure I pick up, like the ones below:
KKPX ION 65-1 UHF
KTEH PBS 54-1 UHF
KFSF TELEFUTURA 66-1 UHF
KCSM PBS 60-1 UHF ,
as well as the Hi-V following
KNTV NBC 11-1 Hi-V
KGO ABC 7-1 Hi-V
Also, I want something simple, the simplest possible; I'm not interested on a gigantic antenna on my roof. I'm not even considering a pre-amp, given that the signal on those channels seem to be very strong. Now the question is:

With FV HD-30: Eventhough it is rated for channels 7-51, will channels over 52 still come in, or would I simply get nothing over that number?
With HD 1080: Would I be able to pick up those H1-V channels, eventhough other seem to not have been so lucky? Will that one be too bulky for what I am looking for?
Please advice, Thanks

Good morning Fulbio,

Just to clarify, the channels you are quoting are the displayed digital channel, and not what channel the actual broadcast frequency is located. As an example, you have KKPX ION on channel 65-1, but it is actually broadcast on UHF channel 41. No television broadcasts in the United States are now broadcast higher than channel 51.

We would recommend the FreeVision FV-HD30 mounted outdoors above your roof with as little obstructions as possible.

Thanks for your promp reply and the important clarification about the cahnnel Vs the frequency of transmission.
It is clear now that FV HD30 is the one to go for.
