need setup advice

Postby madcowscarnival » Tue Aug 23, 2011 11:23 am

I am preparing to install a 7084 in my attic space. Even though I am not too far from the majority of the broadcast towers (<40mi), my reception is fairly poor with a smaller external antenna. I am confident the 7084 will provide me with excellent reception for most channels, however some are very low power. I would like recommendations of pre-amp and amp for the following setup.

The house is wired with RG6 homeruns to a common box in the basement (initially set up for cable). The antenna is located in the attic with 30' of RG6 directly to the TV (this is new cable not run through the box). There is power in the attic.

Antenna to initial splitter (to TV and to common box)- 30',
from split at TV to common box - 50';
split at common box to two TV's - one at 15', one at 45'

I don't want to over-power the signal to any of the TVs. It is not feasible to go directly to the common box and power all 3 TV's from there (though that would be the ideal situation).

Any recommendations? I have access to an 8700 preamp. Thanks.

Good morning,

The AP-8700 will work and so would a Winegard HDA-100. Either one installed in the attic will provide a strong enough signal to power your system but, not over power the TV sets.
