Antenna Selection

Postby Snakeyes » Tue Jul 06, 2010 3:52 pm

This is my first venture into OTA TV viewing and need help selecting an antenna. I live in zip code 19342 - and all stations are approximately 20 miles away. I will be mounting on the roof (using old Directv hardware), around 40 feet off the ground. Any recommendations would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Good morning Snakeeyes -

Since you are receiving the Phillidelphia TV channels which are broadcasting their digital signals on a RF channel between channel 6 and 44 your antenna will need to receive the low band channels 2-6, the high band channels 7-13 and the UHF band channels 14-51. According to the www.antennaweb.org web site you are approximately 16.9 air miles from the TV station towers at a compass heading of 68 degrees. Either the GS-1100 or the HD-7000 antenna should give you excellent performance. The only issue may be if the old DirecTV mount is in a location to allow the antenna to be mounted to it and allow the antenna to be pointed in the proper direction with a clear view of the TV towers.
