Local Channels

Postby dkwalsh » Mon Oct 29, 2012 1:21 pm

We have the portable carry-out satellite and enjoy it--thanks. However, we cannot always get our local network channels. We have gotten them on occasion, so I know we can get them, but just not always. Is there a limit to how far we can be or is there something special we need to do for the set-up? Our local channels come from South Bend and Elkhart, Indiana.

Thanks,

Debby,

Locals are spot-beamed to a specific geographic region, so if you drive too far from where they originate from, you cannot receive them.

This is a FCC regulation that effects both DISH and DirecTV. They do both offer Distant Network Service, where you could get the New York or LA feeds depending on where you're at, but there would be no possible way to get your South Bend/Elkhart locals outside of that area. You would want to talk to your provider if you're interested in Distant Network Service, as they can inform you of how it works.
