only 119 sat with Vip211K

Postby shotgunmiss » Mon Oct 01, 2012 8:49 pm

I have tried, and tried to get a 64 switch, but all I can get is the 119 satellite, and no switch. I've done the check switch so many times I can do it in my sleep. Doing it very carefully step by step as the web site has asked. Still no switch and only the one satellite. I just upgraded from the 508 receiver because of the same problem. (thinking yippie, no problem.....ugh) Do you think it might be the Mission 4000s? Only moving one way? Geeish....I'm ready to pitch the whole thing into the river. HELP!

shotgunmiss,

It sounds like we're hooked to the secondary output of the RT4000S. If you have another cable dropped into the coach, hook to that and see if you have better results. If you only have one cable hooked up, you'll need to check the connections on the roof and make certain that the cable is connected to the main output.

Make sure the power is on to the antenna when running the test as well. You should hear toggle movements by the antenna on tests 13, 15, 17 and 19.

It worked! Thank you so much, will you marry me? I'm sooooo happy! Now I just have to figure out how to get the signal to my main tv in the camper. The primary cable was in the bunk (strange) Any ideas on how to connect to the other tv? I don't care if both tv's have the same channels. I just want to be able to watch either one. I hope I don't have to but another receiver :-(

shotgunmiss,

If you can get up on the roof you can switch the cables on the exterior of the dome. This should put your main TV cable on the primary output.

Hmm, after talking to the people who put the dome on and wired the two TV's they say I need a receiver for each TV. RATS! I was hoping to be able to use just the one, but I guess the way it's wired I can't do it.
Now the trouble is, the bunk TV has found the 3 satellites and the 64 switch (maybe because it's the primary cable....I haven't switched the roof cables yet) but the main TV only picks up one satellite, and no switch. Any ideas? Yipes is this a headache or what ;-)

No dome setup will ever be able to see more than one satellite at a time. If you do want to use 2 separate receivers you will need to take connect the second receiver to the primary cable (apparently in the bunk room) and run a new check switch so that receiver gets a good SW64. Now that you have 2 receivers with the SW64 you can connect either receiver to either connection. The one receiver that is connected to the coax that connects to the "main" output of the dome will work seamlessly. The second receiver will become a slave to the first. The second receiver will be restricted to watching only the channels which are available on the same satellite that has been selected by the first receiver. There is no way that any dome can receive programming from 2 different satellites at the same time so this is not a Winegard issue but rather an issue created by the domes themselves. If you want to ensure you can watch 2 different channels on 2 different TV's without issue you have 2 choices. One choice is to move to the DirecTV service with the understanding that you cannot receive any of the HDTV programming via a dome or replace your dome with an open face antenna like the Trav'ler which will give you everything including HD and multiple receivers from either Dish or DirecTV.

Bill,
Thank you for explaining this to me. I don't want Direct TV, so when I get the other receiver I'll do the switch test on the main cable, then move it to the second position. (I think I will go up on the roof and switch the cables so the main is in the living room area instead of the bunk.) So from what I understand, as long as I use the primary cable to set up both receivers, I should get a 64 switch and three satellites on each receiver, then I can put one receiver on the secondary cable, but it will be limited to channels. I think I understand. I can only watch one TV at a time, but at least I'll have a TV in both places.
Thank you!

You have it all right except the part about only watching one TV at a time. You will be able to watch the same or different channels on both TV's simultaneously. The only restriction is that the TV connected to the second receiver must be watching a channel which is broadcast from the same satellite that was selected by the primary receiver. The second receiver will never be able to move the antenna, like the primary can, but will always have a large number of channels to choose from.
