GM-1518 and Dish VIP222k

Postby cooperwl » Fri Jul 27, 2012 7:36 pm

I have a new GM-1518 that I cannot get to work with my Dish VIP222k. I have the dip switches set for Dish Western Arc (4-7-8 down).

I know the VIP222k is fully functional because I can use it with my existing Dish 500DP+.

1. Disconnected the receiver inputs one and two and run check switch to clear the receiver.
2. Attached the coax from the GM-1518 directly to receiver input one.
3. Set the receiver for one input, transponder 11, sat 119.
4. Powered up the GM-1518. It searches for a while (I removed the dome for observation) and seems to momentarily lock on sats 110 and 119 or 119 and 129. Then it moves to a different position and seems to go to sleep.
5. Run check switch.

GM-1518 never moves, no signals found, nada!

I am certain I am missing a simple step; please help.

cooperwl,

Make sure you have the coax cable coming off the main output running to Satellite Input 1 and that Tuner Input 1 is selected on the point dish screen.

Where does the antenna end up pointing when it's done searching?

Just started the install procedure for my carryout and Dish VIP222K receiver. First, there is a lot more to the set up than Winegard has in the "Quick Set-up" guide. However, my new best friend at Dish very slowly and carefully walked me through the set-up and we were successful in getting TV1 set up and operational. TV2 however, is a different story. No sat signal there what so ever. I can receive cable and OTA signals fine, just no sat signal. The install MH is a 2011 Jayco Greyhawk.
Any and all advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The 222 is not a recommended receiver for use with any of the domed antennas on the market. You can connect the coax from the "main" port on the antenna to the Sat 1 input and then reconfigure the receiver for single tuner mode.

Yes, please see my post directly above yours. The dual tuner receiver is not going to work properly in dual tuner mode when connected to any kind of a dome antenna. Reset the receiver into Single mode and connect just one input for proper operation.

After talking with Winegard we figure out the problem, I must have had a senior monemont. They told me if the primary reciever is on satt. 110 the the secondary reciever can only catch channels on that satt. I thought with 2 recievers you can watch any channel you want, Now I know the rest of the story.
thanks
