SX-3005

Postby gthornby » Thu Jun 07, 2012 11:40 am

Hi,

I have a Motostat satellite system on my RV. It is an single LNB 18” round dish controlled by a Nomad 2 controller

I am thinking of replacing the unit with the SX-3005 but I would like to use both the Direct TV and Dish Networks. Is that possible.

Here is why I am thinkging of switching to your system.

When I travel east of AZ, the dish does not want to lock on. I believe it needs the satellite at 119 for my Direct TV service. I can program the controller for DirectTV or Dish or a few other systems.

The controller normally will find 4 satellites. When I was in Key West, FL it would find one satellite. I changed the programing to use 101 and it will lock on that fine but I get no reception.

I was in Van Horn TX and it found 3 satellites but would not lock on any of them.

I am not sure how the systems works but the error message says, failed to find “primary” satellite

Does the dish need to be aligned or adjusted?
Do I need a new system?

Thanks

gthornby,

Unfortunately the Motosat is one of our competitors products so I wouldn't have any idea how to troubleshoot your current issue.

For our Trav'lers, the SK series, they are provider specific so there is not a unit that is capable of doing both DISH and DirecTV. The SK-3005 is the DirecTV Slimline, which will provide for HD and multisatellite viewing. The SK-1000 is for DISH, which is also HD capable and multisatellite.

The reason that these units are specific to the provider is that we actually use the provider's equipment on their version. IE, for DirecTV, we use a DirecTV Slimline reflector and SL5 LNB. For DISH, we use a DISH 1000.2 reflector and a DPP LNB.

Thank you for your response.

I see there is a "kit" that allows the SX-3005 to be converted to the SX-1000. Is that a simple task that can be reversed so both networks can be accessed?

gthornby,

There is a kit but it would probably be a hassle to change from DISH to DirecTV and vice versa. It involves removing the LNB feed arm, reflector and reflector bracket and replacing with the other providers equipment. I would say that once you get the process down, you're looking at 20-30 minutes to swap equipment.

What I can tell you is that the way the MotoSAT antenna works and the way the Winegard antenna works is like night and day.
If you are currently a DirecTV customer, you will be able to install the SK-3005 and pick up the DirecTV signal from coast to coast and from the Southern most US to the Northern most. The DirecTV satellites are centrally located over TX and the signal is available everywhere that the signal is not blocked by trees. You can even lock on and get reception in much of Canada.
You could also receive the DirecTV HD programming (not possible with your current antenna) without any effort at all.
If the only reason you want to use both services is due to the improper operation of the MotoSAT, you will find that a properly working antenna does not have any of the issues you describe with your current setup.
