Winegard Roadtrip SD

Postby papasgirl1213 » Mon May 28, 2012 10:35 am

Hello Everyone,
I am new here so please excuse me if I dont sound knowledgeable because this is my first travel trailer with automatic satellite on roof. I purchased a 08 Outback that has the Winegard Roadtrip SD already installed. When I went to hook up my new tv and a DTV receiver RCA Model: DRD420RE I can not get it to get a signal. While researching owners manual and users manual for Winegard I am really confused. I know I need to make sure the switch is in the correct sequence to receive DTV but with this model receiver (not HD) do I need additional equipment. I think the receiver is a SWM(?) Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tammie

First, you are going to have to go up on the roof and set the dip switches as described in the manual. The instructions should also be printed on the control box under the dome. If the cables come out of the antenna toward the rear of the coach then all dip switches are up and #8 is down for DirecTV.
The second thing is that the receiver you describe would be considered a dinosaur (don't get mad, I am just saying....). It's not SWM and the only setup options you have are round or oval. I would suggest that you "try" using the Round option and then go to the signal meter and let the antenna do a search. If you are lucky it might lock on but we will have to wait to hear from Winegard to know whether this receiver type will even work with the SD. I think it should but I can't be sure. If it does not lock you will want to check for voltage coming out of the Satellite In connection (I know that sounds backward but it's correct). You should see it alternate between 13+V and 18+V if it is working properly.

Thanks Bill,
Yes, yes, yes the receiver is a dinasour....lol It is one we had in our guest room. We actually have a new HD receiver but have not activated it. This may sound crazy but this is why we are trying to use the dinasour. The new receiver does not have a coaxial out to tv only a HDMI to tv and we are hoping to split to the other tv and use one receiver for both tv's. I am thinking we are gonna have to get the new receiver activated. We have not had time off from work since my post to check out the system again. We are excited about the Winegard as we have always had the dish on the tripod setup in the past. Thanks again for your reply.

You can add an RF modulator to your HD receiver and it will convert the Yellow, Red, White connections on the back of the receiver into a coax output. With that you will be able to send the SD picture to any number of TV's.
