Carryout 12volt power cord

Attempted to connect the Carryout today. Plugged in the power cord and the unit did not go into the search mode (you know whirring and grinding ) I tried both the 12 volt RV receptacle I had installed and successfully used and the ac/dc converter that I used in the past. For a short time while resetting the male plug it took off but then stopped and I couldn't get it to run again. Checked the fuse. Anyway Winegard is sending me a new power cord and we'll see if that is the problem.

The question is: Assuming the problem is a bad female plug connecting to the antenna, is there any reason why I could not have cut off the plug and directly wired the power cord to the leads inside the antenna?

The female plug end is very difficult at times to disconnect and I have read that others have had cord failures either with the female end or the plug on the antenna. Hard wiring appears to be an easy fix assuming it works and I water proof the connection after removing the plug on the antenna.

BTW the service tech suggested in the future not to disconnect the power cord at the antenna just because it is so hard to remove and at times the disconnecting ruins the cord or the antenna plug.

What you suggest would work, but do note that altering the power cord in any fashion will void the warranty on the cord.

I appreciate the very quick reply.

I did not do it but I was considering it if I had to pay for a new cord. I was told that if they gave me a new cord I had to send the old one back so I didn't think sending a cut off cord back was going to fly.

But in the future when in a bind I can see where I may give it a try.

It shouldn't cause any harm to the antenna assuming it connected properly?

FYI got the new power cord and it fixed the problem.

Got a new problem now.
