SK-1000 and 72.7 satellite

Postby wlittle » Mon Apr 09, 2012 5:14 pm

My SK1000 will no longer identify the 72 satellite position. I believe that dish moved the satellite from 72.5 to 72.7. The controller will peak on it, and try to identify, then moves on with the search. The receiver will indicate a strong signal and identify it as 72.7. The only way to use it is to do an emergency power off while it is on 72.7.

wlittle,

A few questions here:

I assume you're in manual 72 mode here while searching?

Have you seen this problem in multiple places or just one area? Can you specify where you are seeing this problem at?

Also, what are you seeing for signal strengths when peaking on the 72?

Yes I am in manual mode for 72 when the los for the western arc is blocked. It finds the western arc fine and identifys 61, 82, 110 119 129 fine, only 72 is not recognized.

This has occurred in New Mexico, Memphis, Augusta GA, Savannah, and St Augustine Fl.

The signal strength varies but is well in the green, and as we moved east it has been over 50 on my 612.

This worked last year in New Mexico where the strength was much lower.

wlittle,

I will check with engineering on this, but I would lean towards there being an issue with the ODU (control board in the turret itself).

It seems the satellite is able to identify the signal for 72 as it stops and attempts to peak on it, but is unable to lock even though it is drawing sufficient signal.

wlittle,

Due to recent changes in the way signal is transmitted from Dish Network’s satellite 72.7, the SK-1000 is unable to lock to it while in a manual mode search. This does not affect the Trav’ler’s capabilities to lock on any of DISH’s other satellites.

You may continue to “park” the antenna on 72.7 by using the Point Dish screen and powering the unit down during its search when it is peaking on it.

If you need anything else, please let me know.

Thank you for the information, is there any way to update the firmware in the unit to reflect the change. Dish has moved almost all of the "Cable" HD channels to 72.7 and is therefor a good substitution for the western arc when LOS is blocked.
We have loved the TRAV'LER and recommended it to several other RV'ers, but having to kill the search manually is really a pain.

Thanks again for the help.

Are there any plans to update the SK1000 to reflect the change in the 72.7 identification signal so that it may find the satellite in manual mode??

Thank you

With the introduction of new Winegard Anser single satellite solution antenna for Dish Network 72, it would be nice if the support was restored for the SK-1000 to manual tune to the same satellite. There are many locations in which the western arc is blocked by trees but there is clear view of 72.

Please reply about any plans to restore this Capability.
