RM-DM46 needs EL recalibration

Postby mmeyer » Sun May 24, 2009 3:49 pm

I discovered, while pointing my dish, that the elevation display is off by 7 degrees. The correct sat el angle is 42 degrees. The elevation displayed shows 49 degrees. Is there an adjustment to recalibrate the elevation display to the correct reading? The elevation display was working correctly last September.
I purchased/installed the RM-DM46 about 2 years ago.

The first two things to look at are:

What color is the button on the front of your wall plate? We made three versions of this sensor and each calibrated differently. The color of the button will tell me how to calibrate the unit.

Before you do that, do you have DISH Network or DIRECTV?

I think the button is gray. I am having my wife confirm. CONFIRMED! The button on the EL display is gray.
I have Dish network. 501 DVR.

Make sure that your receiver is set for DISH 300. The easy way to tell if it is...

Do you have a "SKEW" angle listed as part of your peak angles?

It is set for the 300. And no skew is showing.

To calibrate the gray button unit,

Raise the unit until it is perpendicular to the ground (plumb).
remove the power from the back of the wall plate.
find the posts on the back of the plate that read CAL
use a paperclip (unless the jumper is on your STO post) to jump across the CAL posts as you reapply the power and turn the unit on.

When it starts flashing numbers on the front of the wall plate. Remove the power and the jumper.

It should read 24 in this position.

Great! Thanks!
I'll try it whe I get home and post the results!

White button units calibrate by raising the dish to plumb and then moving the sensor in its mounting to try and get it to read 24 in this position.

That's what I figured.
I tried last night and could not get enough range in the mount to move it far enough.
Guess I'll need to raise the disk to plumb, check the readout and determine the correction factor I need to use when pointing. Unless of course you think it is a degrading el sensor that needs to be replaced.
I am not sure if my unit is still in warranty or not.
How much would aa replacement EL sensor run $$$?
