It sounds like you are trying to receive a channel that is not available in that area. What channel and channel number are you trying to access? What satellite and transponder have you selected in the setup menu (Menu, 6,1,1)? What is your signal strength before you unplug the unit? Where are you currently located? Where is the account registered?

hi thanks for the reply.i registered the anser 5000 carryout in orlando florida it worked fine. I travelled about 70 miles east and 20 mile south of melbourne fl.im trying to locate the 72 sat at 55degree elevation, i do the run thru without the coax eliminating the previous switch then i plug the power in and it locates the sat with a signal strength of 29 then within the 45 seconds i unplug it to lock it in and the signal goes to zero when i remove the power source but the dish is locked .when i go to 6-1-1 i put in zip code 500 and 300 tried them both and with and without zip code but same result

A signal of 29 is not high enough for TV reception. Is it possible that the satellite you are trying to locate is partially blocked by a tree limb or similar obstruction? Does the receiver show at the bottom left of the signal meter screen that it is locked to 72 with a green bar? There are no Networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CW, PBS, etc.) available on the 72 satellite just in case that's what you are looking for. You can simply use your over the air antenna for the reception of these channels.

A signal of 29 should be enough for reception - the cut-off is somewhere around 18. The higher obviously the better, but if you're getting 29 on 72 you should be fine.

Something's happening that shouldn't be - the signal shouldn't disappear based on unplugging the power supply. If the antenna is positioned in the correct spot and getting signal, unplugging it just stops the antenna from moving, therefore locking it onto the signal (it can't move, so the signal should be constant - the LNB is still communicating with the receiver).

29 is a low signal for 72 in that area of the country. I would honestly recommend checking out the line of sight - maybe move the antenna to a higher position or move it around and try to avoid any possible obstructions.
