Dish won't lock on signal

Postby mass9148 » Tue Jul 10, 2012 10:32 am

When setting up for the weekend, my dish won't lock on to a signal. We watch as a 98 strength signal flashes by and the dish keeps searching. After a while, it just stops. The only way I can get it is to standby the off switch and stop it manually when it gets a strong signal.

Is the GPS not working? We usually set up using the zip code to tell it where to go.

Any ideas? It's a Model AS-2003 unit.

mass9148,

I would say the control board on your AS-2003 has failed. You can try to trap the signal by hitting the park button when it is showing signal on your receiver, but other than that there's not much you can do outside of that. The AS-2003 is an obsolete system and we unfortunately do not have replacement parts.

dulobast25,

Is your receiver showing signal ever during a search?

My recollection is that the antennae would just continue to search and the indication on the TV screen only showed "Searching for satellite" as it always does even when the antenae is good. I do not recall a picture apppearing on the screen even for a brief moment and I wasn't monitoring the signal strength.

Are you a DirecTV or Dish Network customer? What model receiver are you using? Have you done the Repeat Satellite Setup (DirecTV) or the Check Switch routine (Dish Network)?

i am a direct tv customer.

I have not done or even heard of the "Repeat Satellite Setup (DirecTV)"

my gut tells me the control board is faulty
or the gps can no longer locate the satellite,
or the motor rotating tilt or azimuth is faulty,

however before eve entertaining any of that, I'd like more input from you.

Can an mv0500 be sent in to winegard for service?

Has this antenna worked for you in the past? If it is "new to you" be sure that the dome has been properly programmed for DirecTV and not Dish. Beyond that you will want to start here and follow the setup instructions. This is a different model than yours but the setup is the same. When it says to select antenna type, personally, I would start by selecting the #1 - 18" round instead of oval 3-LNB.

dulo,

The receiver must be configured by the link Bill posted before it will ever will get signal.

What model of receiver are you using? Make sure it is not model H25 or HR34.
