Anyone using Dish Network RV service?

Postby krs » Mon May 07, 2012 6:01 pm

I bought a Winegard automatic satellite dish (Minimax 8000 model) and receiver from Camping World with the intent of using the Dish network RV service where I could only pay for the service for months I am using same. Everything worked well for the winter but now we are back home for the next several months and I called this morniong to turn the service off. The customer service rep said I could only "pause" the Dish service and that I would continue to incur a $5.00 per month charge. I reluctantly agreed with the "pause" of the service but as the day went on and I thought about it more I started to get the feeling I was getting ripped off. I called back in and asked to speak with someone in the "RV" department who agreed I should be able to turn the service off for several months without charge. But then he transferred me to someone in another department "who would be able to set it up for me" and I received the $5.00 per month "pause" song and dance again. I got frustrated over the whole thing and just told them to cancel my account completely.

Is anyone else using the Dish Network in their RV and able to turn the service off for months they arent using it without incurring any additional fees?

krs,

It sounds like for some reason you were set up under a contracted account, as the account "pausing" and fees are associated with that.

The Pay as You Go account works like a prepaid cell phone, where you pay in advance for 30 day blocks of programming. You can read information on it here: http://www.winegard.com/dishnetwork/

I'm sorry I can't be of more assistance, but if you would like to speak with someone here regarding it, you can contact our customer service at 800-288-8094.

Dish (formerly Dish Network) also has an RV department and you might want to give them a call. As mentioned above, your account was setup with a contract. Assuming you paid full price for the receiver from Camping World then you own it and should not be under any contractual obligation.
You can call the Dish RV Department at 1-888-309-0370.

Thank you both for your help. A big part of the problem is Dish customer service is absolutely terrible with one hand having no idea what the other is doing. At this point i am cancelled and I think I'll probably wait until I'm ready to turn the service back on and deal with any issues then.

Thank you very much for both of your help. The numbers were exactly what I needed. Thank you.

As a side note, if I hadnt been through such a bad experience it would have been funny when the last representative offered to do me a favor and not charge me for failing to return the antenna equipment since it would be so difficult for me to get to it on the top of my RV. You could have heard a pin drop when I thanked him for not charging me for MY antenna equipment that I already paid for at Camping World.
