New Dish Network Hopper with RoadTrip Mission In-Motion

Postby GoldenShores » Sun Apr 01, 2012 12:14 pm

So the old Dish Network DVR Receivers (such as the VIP622 and VIP722) don't work properly with the RoadTrip Mission Dome. My understanding is that when you run a "check switch", these Dish Network receivers don't wait long enough for the Dome to aquire the newly requested satellite.

However, Dish Network has just released a new DVR receiver, named the Hopper. Is this new Hopper compatible with the RoadTrip Mission? Has anyone tried this yet? This could be a huge win for those of us with In-Motion Dish Network in our RV that would love a DVR.

The big issue with a dome (any dome) and the Dish Network service is your dome can only "see" one satellite at a time and Dish Network uses 3 satellites to provide all of their programming. I know that Winegard is testing the Hopper but there will be no way to over come the one-at-a-time issue with your dome and the Hopper will be trying to record programs from all over the place.

Thanks for the reply Bill.

I realize that because the dish can only receive one of the three satellites at a time, this will limit the ability to record multiple programs simultaneously. However, my limited understanding is that most HD programming, which is primarily what we record, is all on sat 129 here in the west. So hopefully the Hopper will work such that the "primary/master" internal receiver will push to 129, and the secondary and tertiary internal receivers will be able to record from 129 only. Any simultaneous attempts at 110/119 recordings would fail, or record a blank program I suppose.

This is what I would hope. :D

I'm wondering if anyone has tried it in practice though.

GoldenShores,

As Bill said our engineers are currently testing different scenarios with the dome systems to see what functionality, if any, they will have with the Hopper/Joey setup.

Hopefully we should have a definitive answer in the near future, so check back here often and as soon as I have any information I will post it.

Great! Can't wait! I've searched all over the web for this answer, and I've seen other folks who are wondering the same thing.
