Dish VIP 722 and Carryout GM1518

Postby Lola04 » Sat May 09, 2009 4:41 pm

I have a Dish VIP 722 receiver and I am considering buying a GM 1518 Carryout for use in my motor home. The receiver has a duel mode feature which allows watching two different programs on two different TV's. And allows recording a program on one TV while watching live TV on the other. It has a single coax antenna feed with a separator to Sat #1 and Sat#2 inputs at the back of the receiver. The feed to the second TV is from the back of the receiver. It is a HD receiver and looks for 110, 119,129 satellite input/feed. My question is, will the GM1518 work with the VIP 722 receiver and allow the receiver to operate in duel mode ?

When I was considering the purchase of a CarryOut, I emailed Winegard about using it with a VIP722 and here was their answer...

The GM-1518 will work with the 722. However, one tuner will be the promary and will determine which satellite the antenna is looking at. The other tuner will be able to veiw any channel on that satellite.

Given that answer, and considering it was always a hassle to move the VIP722 from the house to the RV and back, I decided to get a single tuner VIP211K for the RV. It only costs $7.00 more a month. The VIP211K becomes a DVR when Dish is paid a $40.00 one time fee and a user supplied USB external hard drive is attached to the receiver. Also, being a single tuner, the VIP211K does not have to be connected to a telephone line which saves $5.00 a month which Dish charges when they determine the two tuner VIP722 is no longer connected to a telephone line.

This has worked out well for us and we think the CarryOut is great. Now we can park under the trees and still get satellite TV.
