Not receiving clear channels

Postby th3godf4th3r » Thu Oct 14, 2010 10:51 pm

Hello,

we got our 30' komfort trailer a few weeks ago and last weekend got a brand new vizio tv for it. We searched for channels and got nothing but snow whatever way we turn it, so we took the dealers advice and got the wingman attachment hoping it would help but we put it on today and still same thing.

we have the off/on switch turned on in the bedroom so its not that and we are in a relatively flat location so we should be able to receive a signal just fine.

Do we need to get a DTV converter box or what? any recommendations?

thank you

What is the zip code of where you're at?
Refer to your tv's owner's manual to find out if it has a digital tuner built into it. If it does then you won't need a converter box. You may need to access the tv menu and set it up for Antenna rather than something else like Cable, or Satellite. Run a channel scan.
If you have a voltage meter you can test for voltage getting up to the antenna head to power it. You would need to disconnect the coax cable from the antenna head. Touch your ground to the outside of the jack and your positive to the center copper pin. That should read 12 VDC.

the zip code here is 98837

says we should be getting at least 10 channels, also when we channel scan it is set on antenna but it only finds 2 snowy analog channels.

so shouldnt every thing show up as a digital channel?

my guess is not enough power? i hooked it up to another outlet and it did the same thing.

Depending on how far away the television stations are, I would suggest finding an old fashioned set of rabbit ears, hook them up to your TV and rescan for channels. If you get digital channels then your rooftop antenna is not being powered properly.

Good point vtbigdog.

The way to check the antenna is to get on the roof, if this is something that you can safely do.

Disconnect the coax from where it connects to the antenna head and test the end of the coax for 12VDC.

If you have this voltage you may have a bad antenna head or you could be in an area that doesn't have decent access to channels.

If you do not have the voltage here, you need to check every connection between the antenna head and the wall plate to see where you are losing the voltage. Without this voltage, the antenna amp will eat your signal.
