Newbie to sats. needs help

Postby finley938 » Thu Apr 02, 2009 6:10 pm

I have a 31' Class C that's almost new (06) and has a Winegard access cover on the roof...I assume for a sat. hook-up. Questions: how am I to know that the "in motion" works well? Is there a video demo? Is Winegard (gasp) on financially sound ground, so that if something breaks, it can be replaced? Finally, do you all use the same basic technology, and if not, why is Winegard superior? Need to know best receiver system to go with antenna. I live in Santa Barbara, and there is no local source for this category.
Thanks!

Good morning finley938 and thank you for becoming a member of the Winegard Company Forums.

First and perhaps most importantly, I would like to state that Winegard Company is well diversified and is doing very well. Winegard has been the leader in television reception products since 1954 and will continue to transform reception technology moving forward. Winegard is currently increasing production capacity and will be here to support our customers for any foreseeable future.

Currently we do not have a video demo of our system in-motion but it is something we may do soon with the release of our new video knowledge base. The Tracking systems have been around for nearly 10 years and the technology for following a satellite as you move has been refined to the point where our systems can actually change satellites while you are moving without missing a beat. The best I can do here is to tell you that when I travel, I put a RoadTrip on my minivan and let the kids watch Spongebob while we are moving. I get a quiet trip and rarely lose a signal, even when I expect to do so due to obstructions.

There are many strengths of the Winegard Satellite System but two I would stress are…
1. That we use a solid satellite recognition system in our units so that we always know which of the many satellites we are currently viewing.
2. Winegard prides itself on our customer support and service including the addition of new communications tools such as this forum.

With any satellite system, I would recommend using the most basic satellite receiver for your provider.

For DISH Network use the 311.
For DIRECTV use the D12.

However, our systems can be used with just about any current DISH Network, DIRECTV or BellTV receiver.

Thanks so much for your comprehensive response to my questions...now that you've convinced me of buying a Winegard system that's mobile, is the access area in the roof (there is a label saying it's Winegard compatible on the access panel covering the junction)all that I will need as a source?

That question is a little bit harder to answer just because it was developed by the RV manufacturer and not by us. Typically this kind of access cover is made for the lowest end satellite antenna, one of our crank-up satellite dishes. If you wish to install a RoadTrip or something of that nature you will need to run additional power to the dish.

I would highly recommend talking to your local dealer where you plan on buying the satellite system about their installation options. Having a certified installer put in the system has many advantages including a guarentee on roof leakage and the benefit of not having to climb on your roof.

@Hank,

Can you tell us the model number of your system?
Does it have a clear view of the Southern sky?
Has it ever worked?
