Direct TV / RV What do I need to know?

Thanks inadvance for any help.

I currently have Time Warner cable. I am thinking about getting Direct TV. What do I need outside of whatever the Direct TV people provide to make Direct TV available in my RV? Is there a cost from Direct TV for this service? I have talked with Direct TV but all I get is sales speak, no facts. Can I get internet access in the RV with Direct TV(assuming I have it at my house)?

I think I need a "dish". I have seen the type that sit on the ground and others that sit on a pole/tripod. I think I need cable. I think I need a receiver. Can I use the one from my house?

I am very new to this type of stuff. Please point me to any existing information and I will read that. I need a "dummies" guide to this.

Here is what you will need. If you have any questions please call our DIRECTV Hotline at 866-609-9374.

First, you will need to decide what features are most important to you. On an RV you can have Stationary and In-Motion (watch while going down the road) systems. You must also decide if HD is important to you.

Now, if HD is important you need to look at the Winegard TRAV'LER. This is the only RV system that receives DIRECTV HD and also views multiple satellites at a time for easy DVR use and multiple TV usage. This system uses certified reflectors and has less rain-fade than any other system. It is just like having a dish used at home on your RV. The TRAV'LER is a stationary satellite system.

If in-motion viewing is important, you need to look at a domed system like the Winegard RoadTrip MiniMax. This systems receives all DIRECTV standard programming, has in-motion and stationary models and has a newly redesigned dome that helps signal and rain-fade.

Thanks for the information. I have decided to go with Direct TV. I want HD in my RV. I do not want the in motion dish. You menetioned the Trav'ler. Can I use the RD 9046. I could not find the differecnces between it and SK-3005. Can i use the 9046?

Good morning Russ -

The RD-9046 will be unable to pull in DIRECTV HD signals. To receive those satellites you need a Slimline type dish, which is what is on the TRAV'LER SK-3005. The TRAV'LER systems are the best on the market and you will not suffer from many of the issues RV'ers have with rain fade, signal loss, etc. The refletors are certified and the sytems stows down to a very small height.
