no local channelsI just purchased an anser 5000. I can get tv just fine with my dish network reciever, but I get no local channels. When I called dish they told me the local channels are on different satellites then the #72 satelite. I wanted Satellite tv for my rv but if I get no locals it doesn't pay to have it. Just wondering if there is anything I can do or did I just waste my money?
Re: no local channelsDish is correct, your local Network channels are not available on 72.7. You can use your OTA "Batwing" antenna for the reception of the local Networks or you would have to re-point the antenna to the required satellite to receive them that way. It is my understanding that the Distant Network programming is available on 72.7 if you are able to take advantage of that service.
Re: no local channelsminiman1946,
What town do your locals broadcast from?
Re: no local channelsMy channels come out of Minneapolis, Mn
Re: no local channelsMinneapolis SD channels come satellite 110 and HD channels come from 129, so 72.7 wouldn't be an option in you're wanting to do locals.
Re: no local channelsI wish they would tell you that before you buy. Anybody want to buy this junk?
Re: no local channelsDoes the Anser have to get signals from only 72.7? I am considering purchasing the Anser, but if I can't get local channels, what other portable antenna should I look at? Can you manually make the Anser look at one of the other Dish satellites to get local channels?
Re: no local channelsThe Anser can receive programming from any ONE satellite. If your roof top antenna cannot receive the local Network programming then the Anser may not be your best choice.
For a few hundred $ more you can buy the Winegard Carryout which is a fully automatic antenna that will toggle between 110, 119 and 129 and allow you to receive all of the Dish programming plus your local Networks assuming you have a clear view of the Southern sky (about 20 degrees).
Re: no local channelsHow can I find out what channels are on each satellite? I purchased the Anser and love it. I would like to find out what satellite the local channels for Nashville TN are on, for those times I would like to switch off of 72.7 and see the local news. Thanks for any help.
Re: no local channelsTake a look at www.lyngsat.com . It takes a bit fo time, but you will find them.
