Antenna help

Postby tjmcgolf@gmail.com » Thu Oct 18, 2012 3:14 pm

I am installing an antenna five miles from the towers in St Paul My address is 2183 Hendon, St Paul Mn 55108. I am installing to the heading provided by the Gov.site 34 degrees for channel 5 but I do not get channel 4 at 26 degree. I get 5 but not 4 and then I get 4 but not 5. Am I too close to towers? Do I need multi-directional antenna? I tried Deeny's EZ -HD antenna and the Channel Master CM2016. Does Wiengard have an antenna that will work?/ Help.......this is very annoying plus my wife is driving me crazy.

Sorry for the late reply, I do not normally peruse the General Discussion section.

I would suggest that you are overloading your tuner by pointing your directional antenna to the antenna farm. CH 4 and 5 are close in frequency and high in power. They could be interfering with each other in your tuner.

I would try to point my antenna at about 320 deg, halfway between the 2 farms (270 and 30). This will reduce the power into the TV but should it still should pick up everything.

I pick up Baltimore (22 miles away) while pointing almost 90 deg away towards Wash DC (about 45 miles away) with a good 8 bay antenna that is very directional.

You can also reduce the signal to the TV by using splitters in the coax feed. A 4 port splitter will reduce the signal by at least 7 dB.

An omni-directional antenna, Metrostar MS1000, would work but you still may need to reduce the power with a splitter.
