Dish VIP222K dual tuner

Postby daver » Sat May 05, 2012 9:02 am

Will the Carryout, gm1518, work with the VIP222k dual tuner Dish receiver connected through separator. Will both tuners acquire the western 110, 119, 129 or eastern 62.5, 72, 77 satellites. I have a Dish 211 receiver as well, but I would prefer to use the Dish 222k instead if the Carryout is would work with it because of its dual tuner capability.

You cannot use the Dish Separator with a dome antenna. For that special splitter to work it requires the Dish Pro Plus LNB which is the current multiple LNB head marked DPP.
I recommend that you keep the VIP211K receiver as the one connected to the Carryout as any dual tuner connected to any dome is going to create a failure since the dome antennas can only "see" one satellite at a time. If you want to watch one program on the 119 and one program on 129, you have an impossible situation.
You can add a hard drive to the 211K and for a one time $40 fee Dish will download software to turn your 211K into a single tuner DVR (there are no recurring fees). Additionally, if you add the over-the-air connection to the receiver you would be able to record OTA programming as well. This "almost" makes it a dual tuner DVR but at least you can be assured it will work.
Even if you plan everything very carefully and never plan to watch different programs on different TV's it's possible that the command to toggle the satellite to the new satellite will comes from the wrong tuner and nothing would happen. The recorder would still record but it would be an hour long program called "Complete Signal Loss". :D

Thanks for the reply. I have a 211 not the 211k. I believe the only difference is the color, but they are functionally the same- at least I hope so. The 211 is silver and the 211k is black.
