GM-1518 Carryout won't detect signal

Postby nccummins » Tue Jan 03, 2012 4:13 pm

We hooked it up and tested it in a wide open parking lot and everything worked fine. When we got to an RV park it wouldn't detect a satellite. I tried several locations within the 50' cord and restrictions of streets, etc. There were trees in the southern sky but did not seem excessive to my rookie eyes. How much foliage is too much? I had it on a two foot high table. Would more height, help?

nccummins,

You can check your look angles by inputting your zip code and selecting satellite 101 for DirecTV or satellite 119 for DishNetwork, and check to see if the trees in your area could be in the direction of the azimuth it gives you.

You can also try to get it higher, as more height would give us a better shot of clearing any possible obstructions.

If you are still having trouble, give a technician a call at 800-788-4417.

As a quick and dirty guide to trees, if the tree is tall enough and close enough such that if it fell down it would hit your antenna then it might be too close. The farther N you are the farther away the tree has to be and the farther S you are the closer the trees can be.
The answer about the leaves is....avoid all leaves!
