Is there such a thing as a "generic reciver" that can be used interchageably depending on what service you subscribe to? That way the only thing that would be needed is your "card" from your service?

I can't say that there isn't but I have never seen or heard of one and both DISH Network and DIRECTV are rather secretive and competitive so I doubt that they would allow it.

My wife and I have settled on your portable model as our antennae for both home and rv...both servers say different things about this approach, and seem confused...perhaps because you've made this $$$ saving approach possible for millions using on ant. for both rv and house.....but the connection process, and who guarantees it to work to your satisfaction... AFTER you have signed a contract...remains cloudy. Servers say it's up to the people you buy the receiver from to ensure proper coding...will this happen? Will we get local stations anywhere in the RV? A million questions that both servers seem to be caught without answers...sometimes just saying 'go to our website for the contract"...the the devil is in the details..I'd love to hear from some people who have gone ahead and signed a long-term contract with a mobil device from Winegard. Servers want to know how many rooms we will be transmitting to....what are we to say? When we say "we don't know, it's mobile, they quit their jobs in frustration...guess it was the last straw.
best,

If you run into an issue while using the Carryout, call us first.

We only deal with the dish but to do so we have had to learn quite a bit about the receivers. We can generally handle anything you run into. If it is purely a receiver issue, we will verify it and then tell you what to tell your service provider to help them take care of the issue.

I hope this answers your question.
