Possiblity of a Single Wire HD Mobile Satelite Dish

Postby westcpr » Sun Aug 22, 2010 4:26 pm

I'm bramd new to this forum and wondered if anyone knows about the availability of a single wire SWIM
Direct HC dish in the works. I have a single wire dish installed by Direct TV in my home and also have it going in the RV when its parked there, using the regular outside satelite connection. It works well with the Direct converter and I can access 5 satellites with one wire and one LNB. Does anyone know if a mobile dish is available with this technology? I'd like to be able to use a one-wire satelite dish in the rv while on the road but really do not want to add extra cables through the roof or slide outs with a 3 LNB dish. Any thoughts would be appreciated. :) :)

Good morning westcpr -

Currently the only mobile system capable of receiving DIRECTV HD is the Winegard TRAV'LER SK-3005. The reason our dishes use more than one cable is because the dish must have power to automatically raise, lower and aim the dish. While it is possible to run power over the coax itself, it will also cause issues with the television signal traveling along the same coax. Winegard believes in providing the best possible signal quality to it's customers and therefore uses a seperate power cable.

Thank you for your quick answer. I understand that a power cable is needed separately. However, I was wondering if a single LNB capable of seeing more than one satellite and operating through a single co-ax was doable on a mobile dish. Thanks, again, Ken ;) :)

The TRAV'LER SK-3005 is a 5 lnb dish that receives all satellites and can run over one coax to a receiver. If you are using a DVR you will still need to run 2 coax to the DVR in order to record one show and watch another. This is because your home dish will use SWM technology and the dish would be much more expensive if we used that on the RV.
