Today their are over 50 networks that broadcast completely free over the air. From the classic major networks (ABC, NBC, CBS) to brand new stations started in 2009 (Dot 2).

Here is a current list of over the air broadcast networks and a brief description of their programming and reach.

PBS

Includes PBS KIDS, PBS KIDS Sprout, PBS World and PBS-HD. Available in over 99% of U.S. Households. Programming includes Fine Arts, Drama, Science, History, Public Affairs, Independent Films and a large Daytime Children line up that includes Barney & Friends, Curious George and the well-known Sesame Street.

ABC

Available in over 96% of U.S. Households. Programming includes daytime Soap Operas and Talk Shows, primetime favorites such as Lost and Grey's Anatomy and Saturday morning children's programming.

NBC

Available in over 97% of U.S. Households. Programming includes the daytime soap opera Days of our Lives, prime favorites such as Heroes, Law & Order and ER, Sunday Night Football and late night shows including The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with Conan O'Brien.

CBS

Available in over 96% of U.S. Households. Programming includes daytime soap operas, game shows including The Price is Right, children's programming including the Care Bears, primetime favorites such as Survivor, 60 Minutes and CSI and late night programming including the Late Show with David Letterman.

FOX

Available in over 96% of U.S. Households. Programming includes the industry changing American Idol and other primetime favorites including House, 24 and America's Most Wanted. Popular Sunday shows include The Simpsons, King of the Hill and Family Guy. FOX also offers a wide variety of sports and children's programming.

The CW

Available in over 96% of U.S. Households. Programming includes primetime hits 90210, Smallville and One Tree Hill. Started in 2006 The CW is owned by CBS and Time Warner.

MyNetworkTV

Available in over 96% of U.S. Households. Programming includes WWE SmackDown, The Twilight Zone and Street Patrol. Started in 2006 MyNetworkTV is owned by FOX.

Spanish-language Commercial Networks

Includes Univision (14%+ U.S. Homes Reached) and LATV (12%+ U.S. Homes Reached) as well as 12 other networks. Univision programming includes Univision News, Wake Up America and the talk show Cristina. LATV is a bilingual music and entertainment network which also airs the animated comedy show Ceasar and Chuy.

ION Television

Available in over 83% of U.S. Households. Programming includes The Drew Carey Show, Quantum Leap, M*A*S*H, ER, Boston Legal and classic James Bond movies. ION also offers the game show Family Feud, a wide variety of sporting events including Conference USA college football games and Women's soccer as well as a variety of children's programming including Veggie Tales and My Friend Rabbit.

ION Life

Available in over 83% of U.S. Households. Programming includes shows pertaining to health and wellness, cooking, home decor and travel.

qubo

Available in over 83% of U.S. Households. Qubo features a wide variety of children's programming including Jane and the Dragon, VeggieTales, My Friend Rabbit, Babar and more.

Available in over 20% of U.S. Households. The Dot 2 network will display classic movies from the Sony library as well as children's programming and lifestyle shows.

America One

Available in over 20% of U.S. Households. Programming includes Jack Hanna's Animal Adventures as well as internation sports broadcasts, reruns and syndicated programming.

FUNimation

Available in over 20% of U.S. Households. FUNimation features 24 hour anime programming including Sasami, Suzuka and Moon Phase.

Local AccuWeather

Available in over 59% of U.S. Households. Provides weather-related content including L-bar weather updates, Weather Detectives, Headline Earth and Travel Talk.

TBN

Available in over 21% of U.S. Households. The Trinity Broadcasting Network is a Christian television station that features the flagship variety show Praise the Lord and half-hour talk show Behind the Scenes. TBN also broadcasts programs and telecasts by well-known televangelists including Pat Robertson. TBN also operates four sub-channels including The Church Channel, JCTV, Smile of a Child and Enlace USA.
