SS-1000 - Choppy Digital
Date Modified: 2009-04-21

Question:
I have a Winegard SS-1000 antenna roof mounted. It is connected to the TV with about 25' of cable. There are lots of trees taller than the antenna between it and the station towers. The HD signal will not stay steady. Continually cuts in and out making HD totally unwatchable. The signal sometimes drops from 100 to 0 and the back again in a few seconds. Do you have any reccomendations?

Tech Tip:
It is possible that you are actually over driving the digital tuner with too much signal which will cause it to drop signal, tile, pixellize, and go searching for signal just as if you do not have enough signal. You can order a TA-8700 adjustable attenuator from your local dealer. Install this attenuator ahead of your converter box and reduce the incoming signal to see what happens. You can also try installing a 2-way (SP-1002) or a 4-way (SP-1004) splitter inbetween the antenna and your TV set to reduce the signal.
